Forget your old friends
A reply to Mr. Cohen

I have always wanted to the the sophisticated type who can say
‘Do not forget your old friends’
But I am not

I want you to forget your old friends
I can’t say the word ‘lovers’
I can just about manage ‘ponies’

I want there to have been nothing before me
I am encamped; ‘building a nest in your hair’
I am John Donne’s flea, William Blake’s were- flea

I am a stone age fort around your heart
Bind weed on your body
I want long walks and ornaments on nothing

I am a left wing libertarian
I want two big dogs, a good stick,
Some land and you

And somewhere to dump the contents of my mind

Sincerely J. Lynch
